Native Hawaiian Historic Preservation Council

The Mission of OHA’s Native Hawaiian Historic Preservation Council (NHHPC) is to improve the quality of life and ensure the cultural identity of Native Hawaiians by preserving and perpetuating Native Hawaiian cultural, historic, resources, and empowering all Hawaiians to participate in the stewardship of these properties, traditions, practices, and values.

The NHHPC advises OHA’s Chief Executive Officer (Ka Pouhana) on matters and issues relative to historic preservation. Members serve on a volunteer basis, and meet regularly. The council is staffed by OHA’s Compliance Enforcement section.
