OHA: Office of Hawaiian Affairs

OHA trustees select new chairwoman and leadership

HONOLULU (Dec. 8, 2016) – At-Large Trustee Rowena Akana was elected as the new chairwoman of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs Board of Trustees today.

Chair Akana succeeds Hawaiʻi Island Trustee Robert K. Lindsey Jr., who led the OHA Board of Trustees for the past two years.

“I am excited about my new role as the Chair of the Board of Trustees,” Chair Akana said. “I look forward to working with all of the trustees on behalf of our beneficiaries.”

Chair Akana’s selection came during a reorganization meeting. Trustees also selected At-Large Trustee Leinaʻala Ahu Isa, Ph.D., as the vice chairwoman of the board and Maui Trustee Hulu Lindsey as the chairwoman of the board’s Committee on Resource Management.

Selections for the remaining board leadership positions will be made at a subsequent board meeting.

Today’s board meeting was the first since the general election, during which four trustees were elected to new four-year terms.  Trustee Ahuna, Trustee Machado and Trustee Robert K. Lindsey Jr. were incumbents who were re-elected.  This meeting was the first for OHA’s newest trustee, At-Large Trustee Keliʻi Akina, Ph.D.

The Honorable Lisa M. Ginoza, an associate judge with the Hawaiʻi Intermediate Court of Appeals, administered the Oath of Office to the newly elected trustees at today’s meeting.  OHA will hold an investiture ceremony for the newly-sworn in trustees tomorrow at Central Union Church for invited guests.
