KAUNAKAKAI (April 23, 2019) – The Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) is hosting a series of free small business strategy workshops on Molokaʻi, with the next one scheduled for April 30.
The “Maolipreneur” Community Workshop Series will consist of five Hawaiian value-based business workshops that will assist those interested in starting a business or strengthening a current business with tactics that include business plan development, building business credit and managing revenue streams.
“Maolipreneur is intended to provide entrepeneurship training that will help our island residents achieve economic self-sustainability,” said Gayla Haliniak, OHA Community Outreach Coordinator on Molokaʻi.
OHA is partnering with the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands, Hiamana and the Kohala Center to host this series. The workshops are funded in part by a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Minority Business Development Agency.
Maolipreneur is part of OHA’s I Mana Ka Lāhui series, which are smaller community workshops tailored to meet the unique needs of Native Hawaiians in a specific area. These workshops may focus on increasing participation in Hawaiian culture; increasing educational opportunities about Hawaiian history; providing support for Native Hawaiian civic engagement; or addressing the results of OHA’s Strategic Plan.
“We are trying to work more collaboratively with other community-based organizations to be more engaged at a grassroots level,” said Davis Price, OHA’s Community Outreach Manager. “These small business workshops are important everywhere but especially in our rural communities.”
Maolipreneur Community Workshop Series consists of the following weekly sessions, all of which will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.:
The sessions are free and open to the public. The workshops will be held at OHA’s Molokaʻi Office at Kūlana ʻŌiwi, 600 Maunaloa Highway. Participants must RSVP in advance as space is limited.
