
Nā Puʻuwai are offering free workshops and information on traditional Native Hawaiian health services for expectant and new mothers.
Workshops will cover some of the following:
- Kūkākūkā – traditional breast-feeding practices of old Hawaiʻi
- Panena – discussions addressing questions from new moms and families
- Wahine hapai lomi – activity to teach partners gentle massage for hapai women
- Keiki lomi – teaching parents and family members about comforting massage for babies during their first year of life
- Wahine hapai la‘au lapa‘au – a showcase of Lānaʻi plants that have traditionally been used to support healthy pregnancies, birth, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding and newborn health
- ‘Ai pono – cooking demonstration featuring healthy foods for pregnancy and the first year of life
- Ho‘oikaika kino – specific exercises known to prepare a woman’s body for the birthing process, including lower body strengthening
