Waimea Valley

Waimea Valley is a 1,800-acre property on the North Shore of Oʻahu. OHA acquired this property as a way of preserving the land for its cultural value, to protect traditional and customary rights, and to perpetuate the Native Hawaiian people and culture.  OHA has since transferred title to the property to Hi‘ipaka LLC, which now manages all activities in Waimea Valley.

Acquisition objectives:

  • Protection of Waimea Valley
  • Keep the valley intact

Features:

  • In the lower Valley, the physical plant consists of the visitor’s center, gift shop and Pikake Pavilion including a downstairs snack shop and an upstairs restaurant known as the Proud Peacock.
  • A paved road, approximately three quarters of a mile is used by visitors to access the waterfall
  • An old amphitheater is in the process of being restored and there are several structures in varying size scattered throughout the Valley that are used for different activities and events.
  • Waimea Valley also has facilities for meetings, weddings and other special events.
  • In a study conducted by Archaeological Consultants of the Pacific, 78 sites of interest were identified including religious sites and shrines, house lots, agricultural terraces and fishponds.
  • 150-acre Arboretum and Botanical Garden contains more than 5,000 documented kinds of tropical plants including native and endangered Hawaiian plants.
