OHA rolls out business loan program for Hawaiians

HONOLULU (June 18, 2013) – The Office of Hawaiian Affairs has announced that it is offering low-cost loans of up to $1 million to help Native Hawaiian-owned small businesses expand.
 
Under OHA’s Hua Kanu business loan program, highly-qualified applicants would be eligible for between $200,000 and $1 million that they would be required to repay over a seven-year period.
 
The interest rate on this business loan is 6.25 percent.

OHA Board of Trustees to hold two meetings on Molokaʻi

MOLOKA'I - Native Hawaiians on Moloka'i will get an opportunity to provide feedback to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) at a community forum as well as a regular meeting scheduled by the Board of Trustees.  The community meeting is designed for OHA officials to listen to concerns and highlight efforts to improve conditions within Hawaiian communities. OHA ramps up its online presence with new site

HONOLULU (May 29, 2013) – In its latest attempt to better connect with mobile audiences, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs has added the popular blogging service Tumblr to its growing mix of multi-media and information outlets.

OHA's new Tumblr site features videos, audio, photos and texts that users can share with others. The site also helps position OHA with Tumblr's loyal following of youthful active users who are known to seek information using mobile phones and other electronic devices. OHA trustees draw big crowd to Maui meeting

OHA launches Presidential Appointment Project

HONOLULU (May 9, 2013)  -- The Office of Hawaiian Affairs today launched an initiative aimed at increasing the level of Native Hawaiian representation among presidential appointees. OHA's proposed budget draws positive reaction

HONOLULU (May 3, 2013) -- The Office of Hawaiian Affairs on Thursday outlined for community leaders a two-year spending plan that heavily relies on the organization's ability to leverage resources.

OHA awards $1.5 million to charter schools

HONOLULU (April 23, 2013) – The Board of Trustees for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs has awarded a $1.5 million grant to help charter schools with a particular interest in students from the Native Hawaiian community keep pace with growing enrollment.

The OHA grant is expected to help the 17 Hawaiian-focused charter schools that make up the Na Lei Naʻauao Alliance cover various costs associated with teaching and feeding students, as well as transporting them to school. Read more about OHA awards $1.5 million to charter schools

Public Comment on OHA’s FY 2014/FY 2015 Biennium Budget

 

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs sought public comment on its proposed OHA Biennium Budget; prepared every two years, for the ensuing two years; for the fiscal periods beginning July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014 (FY 2014) and July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015 (FY 2015).  This public comment period ran from April 22, 2013 through May 3, 2013 and is now closed.

OHA awards $8 million to 32 non-profits focused on key priorities for Native Hawaiians

HONOLULU (April 19, 2013) – The Board of Trustees for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs has awarded $8 million in grants to 32 community-based organizations that have tied their missions to helping improve conditions for Native Hawaiians.

More than 6,200 Native Hawaiians are expected to directly benefit from the grant money that addresses such OHA priorities as combating obesity, improving middle as well as high-school test scores, and increasing housing stability.
