OHA marks 30 years of empowering Hawaiians, strengthening Hawai‘i

This month, we commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. On Nov. 4, 1980, OHA officially became operational with nine newly elected Trustees who were given the reins of leadership. Their noble purpose, to serve by bettering the conditions of all Hawaiians, and their five priorities were to improve economic, political, educational, social and cultural conditions for Hawaiians.   READ MORE »

It has been more than a year since the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) and the state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) entered into a historic financial partnership to put more Hawaiians into homes. In this financial partnership – the largest of its kind between OHA and DHHL – OHA will fund $90 million over 30 years ($3 million a year) toward the development of homes and other various homestead projects across the state in an effort to help improve the quality of life for all of Hawai‘i.
