Conflict has often divided the military and the Hawaiian community, but a new symbolic accord marks an effort to forge positive relations. In a March 24 ceremony at Fort DeRussy, a first-of-its-kind Native Hawaiian Covenant was signed by representatives of the Army and Native Hawaiian organizations. Koa honored with OHA's Hawaiian language award

You could feel the winds move in response to her call as what seemed a voice from the past rose in the oli "Ea 'Ïao He Po'o No Nä Wai," composed by M. Kekäuluohi. The chant uses specials places, winds and plants to weave the words about Lunalilo, the composer's son who ascended to rule the Hawaiian Kingdom.READ MORE »
