$2.13 million in support of Hawaiians
The Office of Hawaiian Affairs is proud to support initiatives to empower our Native Hawaiian beneficiaries. In this issue of Ka Wai Ola Loa, read about:
- $2 million toward the restoration of Bishop Museum's Hawaiian Hall
- $24,958 to help Ni'ihau residents overcome barriers to higher education
- $10,000 to perpetuate authentic Hawaiian slack key music
- $59,974 to perpetuate Hawaiian outrigger canoe racing
- $29,100 to teach Hawaiian immersion students digital storytelling skills
All this adds up to $2.13 million in grants to our community. Add to that OHA's efforts to secure and preserve O'ahu's Waimea Valley, and advocacy to protect the rights of our Hawaiian musicians, and you see the impact of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs: empowering Hawaiians, strengthening Hawai'i.
