LEO 'ELELE - TRUSTEE MESSAGES

Mahalo

Mahalo nui loa to the residents of Kaua'i and Ni'ihau for your gracious support. Although five of us pulled election papers, the other four did not file for the elected position I now hold as OHA Trustee. Election officials informed me that I am “in.”

In January 2000, Gov. Cayetano appointed me to replace Trustee Moses Keale. Then, in November 2000 I was elected from a pool of four other candidates. In November 2004 no legal Kaua'i resident filed – so I was elected. In the 2008 election, again I am unopposed. I am truly blessed and humbled.

I want to say mahalo to OHA Trustees – Chairwoman Haunani Apoliona, Vice Chairman Walter Heen, Trustee Oz Stender, Trustee Boyd Mossman, Trustee Robert Lindsey and Trustee Colette Machado for the encouragement and true aloha. Also to Trustee Rowena Akana for calling to say congratulations.

The next four years are going to be most important for doing what is right to do for Hawai'i's people.

Many of you may be invisible to my eyes – but not to my heart.

With much aloha, Don.
