On behalf of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, it is my pleasure to present the 2006 Native Hawaiian Data Book, a comprehensive statistical profile of the current status of the Native Hawaiian community.

This publication provides statistical data on Native Hawaiian communities throughout the state, offering a numerical representation of the social and economic status of the Native Hawaiian population.  Statistics ranging from education levels to income profiles provide a clearer picture of the current status of the Native Hawaiian community.

In addition, this data book is essential in furthering OHA's mission of strengthening and maintaining the Hawaiian people and their culture as powerful and vital components in society.  These numbers represent a fixed point of reference which we can use to measure our successes as well as chart our path for the future.

This 2006 edition also includes resource lists for education, health, human services, and economic development, and GIS maps to illustrate the demographic distribution of the Native Hawaiian population in the state of Hawai'i.

Due to the large file content, the data book is broken out into the following sections for faster downloading:

Introduction

Demographics

Land Holdings

Education

Health

Human Services

Housing

Economic Development

Public Safety

Appendix, Definitions, Statistical Sources, and Acknowledgements
