OHA’s leaders are focused on fulfilling an obligation to rebuilding a Hawaiian nation to better care for their lāhui and pae ‘āina. They have been committed to working with community partners at the county, state and federal level to create strategic alliances intended to help their efforts to ensure that Hawaiians can look towards a brighter future.
Among examples is their advocacy efforts at the Hawai‘i Legislature on issues of importance to Native Hawaiian communities. In addition, they have committed resources to programs with the potential to create the kind of positive change that will continue to benefit future generations of Hawaiians. Their priorities include perpetuating Hawaiian culture; protecting natural resources; improving Native Hawaiian health; expanding housing opportunities; closing gaps in Hawaiian education and improving the economic well-being of Hawaiians. While their progress in improving conditions for Native Hawaiians is significant, it also remains incomplete.
That is why they view a stronger and more capable alliance with the organizations that make up the Ali‘i Trusts as in the Hawaiian community’s best interest. This conviction is driving OHA’s leadership to redouble efforts to try to work together in a coordinated way with the other Ali‘i Trusts to create an environment where all Native Hawaiians have an opportunity to thrive. At the same time, a key fundamental goal of the organization’s top leadership has been to create a workplace at OHA that encourages collaboration and sizzles with employees who inspire support and confidence through their thoughts and actions.
